Happy New Years!!!

I don't like the New Year. Never have. New equals change, and I hate change.

I like old and comforting.
The familiar.
Sameness.

The New Year means I have to get used to writing a different year on my checks.
The New Year has mistakes not yet made, but the Old Year's mistakes have been made and overcome.
There's no telling what the New Year will bring. What if I don't like what it has to offer?
The Old Year is my friend....it's been with me for awhile.

Anyhoo....

My favorite New Year's memory is this.....

December 31, 1999
I was 16 and Gary Lutrick was preaching our New Year's service.
Y2K was emminent, and the world would soon come to an end.
I was worried about it.
At some point during the message, Bro. Lutrick said, "Ya'll all need to stop worrying about this Y2K and start worrying about Y-O-U!!!"
I admit, he had me stumped.
I turned to Mother and whispered curiously in her ear,"What's Y-O-U?"
She turned compassionate brown eyes on me and said," Sunny Jane, you really need to learn how to spell out loud."
I understandably changed the subject.

It's ten years later and I still dread the newness of the New Year.

And I still can't spell out loud.

Church on Sunday

"This is the church....
           This is the steeple....
                    Open the doors....
                               And, here are the people!"

I knew church was a big part of our lives (duh), but today Hannah made me realize just how much our life revolves around the church.

We had just pulled into the driveway from going out to lunch when she noticed the garbage truck picking up the trash as usual. " What in the world!", she said. "Don't they know they don't have to come today?!! I guess they didn't remember there's no church tonight...."

Silly waste management! I guess they didn't pay attention to the text Tim sent out to all the church members that church services are canceled tonight due to the New Years Eve party at church tomorrow night.

Hannah Bananna

(I'm still not sure what the connection is between our trash pick-up and canceled services though)

Funny Girl

This morning I got up and Emma wanted to play a game with me so I chose Candyland (who wouldn't want to play that one?). I was a little distracted during the game because Karen and I were talking at the same time....and everyone knows I can't multitask. It was ok though because Emma was helpfully moving for me with a big happy smile on her face. After losing three times in a row (to a stinkin five year old), I finally started to pay attention. Emma was moving me BACKWARDS the whole time! I was like, "Hey, cheater!" But, she looked up at me so innocent and said, "No, Sunny! This is the way you go! That way I can win you!"

She had a point.

Sister Jenny

Jenny and Mik

I got to spend the last week with Jenny and here's what i found out...

She is a loyal soul

She has a
REALLY, SUPER, LOUD LAUGH
that makes me feel like laughing back

She and I have something in common....we both snort at the end of a hard laugh

Jenny likes to make people happy
She blows her nose like a horn and Jason likes it(that sounds kinda weird, but it's true)
She wants to live for God
She is 28, but still young at heart:)

Jenny makes the best secret kiss cookies. They have dark chocolate in the middle. I like.

She hates evil
She is a good mother
She very makes Jason so, so, so, happy
She makes his eyes smile

You never have to wonder what she's feeling....her heart is on her sleeve
She is sympathetic
Compassionate
Funny
Very funny

Her hair looks the same when she wakes up as when she went to bed(which is so amazing! why doesn't mine do that?)

Mikenzie is Jennifer in miniature

She gets sad and frustrated, but knows how to bounce back
Generous
She knows jokes like,"Why did the turtle cross the road?....To get to the Shell station." Get it?
She is laughter on a sad day

She has been my sister for five years and I'm really glad Jason is smart enough to know a good thing when he sees one.

I love her
